Profitability & Pricing Review
See which routes are working — before you price the next one
A clear, quarterly look at profitability by route and contract. We present the figures honestly and leave the commercial decisions where they belong — with you.
What this delivers
A plain view of which contracts are contributing — and which ones aren't
Pricing decisions in transport often rest on experience and gut feel. That works up to a point — but when contracts run close to margin, or fuel costs shift, the gap between what you're charging and what a route actually costs can quietly close. This review surfaces that, route by route, each quarter.
- Route-by-route profitability shown clearly — revenue against full attributed costs
- Contract-level analysis to support decisions at renewal time
- Per-mile cost data presented so new pricing has a factual foundation
- Findings presented plainly — no jargon, no pressure on what to do with them

Where things get uncertain
Quoting on instinct works — until margins get thin
Most transport operators have a reasonable sense of which work is good and which is marginal. But "a reasonable sense" isn't the same as knowing. When fuel prices shift, when a vehicle needs unexpected repair, or when a contract runs longer than expected — the difference between a profitable route and a costly one can change without anyone noticing.
Pricing the next contract blind
When a similar contract comes up for tender, knowing what the last one actually cost to run is the most useful figure you can have. Without it, you're estimating.
Holding onto unprofitable work
Some contracts look busy and feel worthwhile — but when you attribute all the costs correctly, the margin is thin or absent. That's hard to see without a structured review.
No baseline for rate conversations
When a customer pushes back on a rate increase, it's easier to hold your position when you can point to what the work actually costs per mile. Without that, the conversation is harder.
How this service works
Figures presented clearly — decisions remain entirely yours
Each quarter, we take your cost and revenue data, work through it by route and contract, and produce a clear picture of where margin is being made and where it isn't. We don't tell you what to do with that — commercial decisions belong with the people running the operation. But having the figures in front of you tends to make those decisions more straightforward.
Revenue and cost matched per route
We take what each route earns and set it against the full attributed cost of running it — fuel, driver time, vehicle wear, and any route-specific expenses. The result is a clear per-route margin figure.
Contract analysis for renewal decisions
When a contract is up for renewal, we can look at how it performed over the quarter — and the previous quarters if available — so you're walking into that conversation with a clear understanding of what it's worth to keep.
Per-mile cost to support future pricing
For each route we review, we can provide a per-mile cost figure that you can use when quoting on similar work. It's a number, not a recommendation — what you do with it is up to you.
What the quarterly process looks like
A structured review, delivered four times a year
Each quarter follows the same process — data in, analysis done, findings presented. Over time, the comparisons between quarters become as useful as any individual review.
Data shared at quarter end
You share revenue figures by route or contract, along with the cost data for the period — or we draw from ongoing bookkeeping if you use that service too.
We work through the figures
Revenue and costs are matched per route. Margins calculated. Any routes where costs look high relative to what's being earned are noted clearly.
Report delivered in plain language
A written summary of the quarter's profitability picture — laid out clearly, without accounting terminology, with a comparison to the previous quarter where available.
Walkthrough call if useful
A short call to walk through any figures you'd like to understand better, or to talk through what the data means for any upcoming pricing conversations.
What's included
$520 per quarter — four reviews per year
A fixed quarterly fee covering the full review process. No additional charges for the walkthrough call, no extra costs for more routes or contracts within your operation.

What to expect over time
The value of this review compounds with each quarter
A single quarterly review gives you a snapshot. Four give you a pattern. The longer this runs, the more useful the comparisons become — and the stronger your position when pricing or renewing contracts.
The baseline
The first review establishes where things stand — which routes are contributing, which are marginal, and what the per-mile cost picture looks like across your operation. This alone is often clarifying.
Comparisons become available
With two or three quarters of data, you can see whether margins are improving, holding steady, or being squeezed — and whether that's happening across the operation or on specific routes.
A real pricing foundation
After a full year, you have seasonal context, trend data, and a reliable cost basis. Quoting on new work or renewing existing contracts becomes a much more grounded exercise.
Our approach
We present the figures honestly — including the ones that aren't flattering
This review is only useful if it's accurate. We don't smooth over routes that aren't working, or present figures in a way that makes the picture look better than it is. You're paying for a clear view — and that's what we'll give you.
No-obligation first conversation
Talk through what your operation looks like and what you'd want from a quarterly review. No commitment required until you're satisfied it's worthwhile.
Fixed quarterly cost
$520 per quarter, covering the full review regardless of how many routes or contracts are in scope. No variable charges.
Decisions stay with you
We present what the figures show. What you do with that information — pricing, contract decisions, fleet changes — is entirely your call. We're here to inform, not advise.
Getting started
A straightforward start to a quarterly habit
The first quarter tends to be the most useful — it shows you where things actually stand. After that, it becomes a routine part of how you review the operation.
Tell us about your routes and contracts
A rough description of your operation — how many active routes, how contracts are structured, and whether you have existing cost data we can work from.
We confirm scope and timing
We'll agree what the review covers, how you'll share data with us at quarter end, and a start date — usually aligned to the beginning of a new quarter for a clean first review.
First report delivered within two weeks of quarter end
Once we have the quarter's data, we complete the analysis and deliver the report promptly — so you have the figures in hand while the quarter is still fresh.
Ready to understand what your routes are really returning?
Get in touch with a brief description of your operation. We'll come back to you within a working day to discuss whether a quarterly review would be a useful addition to how you manage the business.
